Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designated representative, the Senior Research Scientist is responsible for the design and execution of a range of intricate research experiments with a significant level of autonomy.

This role will play a crucial part in the oversight of the research program and will engage in various facets of the research initiatives and laboratory upkeep activities.


Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Independently conceptualize and conduct multiple sophisticated laboratory experiments

Identify and employ all relevant software associated with experiments and equipment utilized

Analyze data, draw conclusions, and determine subsequent actions with a high level of independence

Maintain precise records and document results in accordance with established laboratory, sponsor, and institutional protocols

Review literature, publications, and grant proposals pertinent to assigned projects

Document results in compliance with established laboratory, sponsor, and institutional protocols

Conduct comprehensive data analysis and/or mathematical computations

Maintain a meticulous laboratory notebook in accordance with laboratory practices

Compile and interpret data, presenting it in a format suitable for publication as per PI specifications

Present findings at laboratory/group meetings and other relevant forums

Ensure laboratory supply levels are maintained and order supplies as necessary

Oversee laboratory equipment service contracts and coordinate maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Prepare and label buffers, media, solutions, etc.

Monitor and enforce all safety regulations and infection control standards

Identify and draft standard operating procedures in compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations specific to the laboratory

Train personnel on IACUC, EHS, and radiation safety protocols

Adhere to all applicable state, federal, institutional, and sponsor policies and agreements

Manage daily laboratory operations, including personnel, procedures, and projects

Identify challenges and propose solutions, implementing appropriate resolutions

Develop and implement new protocols and/or modify existing protocols as necessary, with the approval of the PI

Prioritize and execute multiple tasks or procedures simultaneously with attention to detail

Perform duties and experiments independently

Mentor and train laboratory personnel on proper laboratory practices and techniques

Oversee laboratory expenditures in accordance with budget guidelines provided by the PI or designee

Assist with budgetary and operational aspects of grant and contract proposals

Negotiate with vendors to optimize available resources

Contribute independently to the writing of sections for manuscripts and grant proposals

Direct the activities of research support staff

Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's degree in Biological or Natural Science with 5+ years of relevant research experience, or a related Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant research experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Strong capability to analyze complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner

Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with T cell responses to virus-specific immunology and heterologous immunity

Proficiency in T cell sorting, TCR sequencing, and T cell phenotyping

Experience with BD-LSRII and BD-FACSymphony A5-SE cell analyzers

Working knowledge of BCL-2 laboratory

Familiarity with real-time PCR techniques

Experience and expertise fields:
Virology, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology


Experience with PBMC isolation from human blood, CD4/CD8 T cell/B cell sorting, HLA-typing, FACS staining, ELISPOT assays, proliferation assays, and ICS production assays of T cells, NK, and Treg cells.

Skilled in antigen-specific phenotyping of CD4/CD8 and B cells; viral load quantification in PBMC, nasal-oral washes, and sputum; genomic DNA and RNA isolation and amplification

Proficient in antibody subtyping/profiling; setting up short-term T cell cultures; TCR VA/VB / TCR V gamma delta repertoire analysis

Experienced in freezing-thawing T-B cells, plasma, and serum; quantification of cytotoxic T cells using Chromium 51 release assays; utilizing GC 1000 irradiators

Familiarity with T2 and MLA-144 cell lines; preparation of MHC-Class I tetramers with various streptavidin conjugates

Expertise in using Prism Graph Pad 10 and FlowJo 10 software
