Position Overview

The Nutritional Services Division at the State of Vermont is actively seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including food preparation, setting up and dismantling dining areas, delivering meals to various units, managing the food line, restocking supplies, washing dishes and cookware, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen environment.

The work schedule for this position is from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including weekends and holidays.

The starting pay for this position is $15.86 per hour, with potential for negotiation based on experience and qualifications.

Eligibility Criteria

This position is open to all State employees and external candidates.

Individuals with a history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, or those convicted of offenses related to bodily harm, theft, or financial misconduct are not eligible for this position. Candidates must successfully complete a background investigation, including criminal record checks and abuse registry checks.

Work Environment

The role is performed in a commercial kitchen setting during assigned shifts. Responsibilities may include delivering food carts to different dining areas. Hazards associated with this position include the use of kitchen utensils and equipment, exposure to hot food items, and working in confined spaces.

Direct interaction with residents is a significant aspect of this role, which may lead to exposure to infectious diseases or physical injuries.

Qualifications

No specific educational background or prior experience is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen setting or completion of a culinary arts program at the high school level is preferred.
