The Washington Post seeks a deeply sourced, creative, and high-energy reporter to cover Congress. This role requires someone who knows how to work sources, break news, explain complex policy fights, and demystify the workings of Capitol Hill for a general audience.

We are looking for a reporter who can collaborate with our growing Congress team to make what happens on Capitol Hill interesting and accessible for a broad audience. Responsibilities include:
  • Seeking and breaking news on members of Congress.
  • Developing and maintaining key Capitol Hill sources: members of Congress, their aides, activists, lobbyists, and constituents.
  • Covering policy fights on Capitol Hill and assessing their impact on Americans.
  • Tracking the relationship between Congress and other major centers of political power.
  • Rooting out indications of conflicts of interest, misconduct, or corruption and holding those accountable.

Requirements\

To be successful in this role, you should have at least five years' experience covering Congress or another legislature, with a track record of breaking impactful stories. You must be able to work fast and write clearly on deadline, while being eager to collaborate with colleagues across the newsroom in a competitive environment.
