Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing preventive maintenance and general maintenance for all UF/IFAS-owned buildings at Lake Alfred, Apopka, and Wimauma, Florida.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment, including air conditioners, air handlers, air compressors, condensing units, refrigeration units, ice machines, natural gas unit heaters, chillers, and circulating water pumps.

• Manages the operation of and performs maintenance on outdoor air conditioning units on Lake Alfred, Apopka, and Wimauma sites; monitors equipment activity via automated controls.

• Oversees HVAC portions of renovation/new construction projects.

• Completes records and reports in support of the preventative and scheduled maintenance of all building systems, including daily chiller readings, materials used, labor required for tasks, etc.

Requirements

• Completion of an approved heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience.

• Maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license is required.

• Must hold and maintain valid EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience.

• Expertise with installation and repair of HVAC systems.

• Skilled in repair and installation of control circuit systems.

• Proficiency with installation and repair of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

• Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

• Familiarity with hand and power tools.

• Computer skills, including ability to learn and independently utilize electronic work order system.

• Strong communication skills.

• Self-starting work ethic.
