About the Role

The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) is seeking a highly skilled Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its financial systems, budgeting, internal controls, and financial compliance. As a key member of the executive management team, the CFO will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization's financial strategy, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing financial guidance to senior management and department managers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. They will be a strategic thinker, able to analyze complex financial data and make informed decisions. The CFO will also be responsible for overseeing the finance, government grants, and procurement teams, and will work closely with the executive management team to drive the organization's overall strategy.

The ACA is a high-performance organization with a streamlined mission to grow and strengthen Arizona's economy. The organization uses a three-pronged approach to advance the overall economy: recruit, grow, create – recruit out-of-state companies to expand their operations in Arizona; work with existing companies to grow their business in Arizona and beyond; and partner with entrepreneurs and companies large and small to create new jobs and businesses in targeted industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the organization's financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including government accounting standards and federal financial requirements.
  • Provide financial guidance to senior management and department managers, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Oversee the finance, government grants, and procurement teams, ensuring effective management and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the executive management team to drive the organization's overall strategy and achieve its mission.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing financial strategies, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management, department managers, and other stakeholders.
