POSITION: Licensed Speech Language Specialist - Speech Language Pathologist - Two roles available

One Full-Time Role and One Part-Time Role

LOCATION: District - In-Person - On-Site

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Programs

JOB SUMMARY: Speech Language Pathologists are responsible for assessing students to determine their eligibility for speech and language interventions and delivering those services to qualified students. The full-time role is a 1.0 FTE position, requiring 7 hours of work per day for 180 days. The part-time role's hours will vary based on the applicant's availability, with the salary for part-time positions being contingent on the FTE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate as a team member to identify, assess, and place students with speech and language challenges.
  • Assist in creating and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the specific needs of students.
  • Engage in staff meetings, planning sessions, and various departmental meetings to discuss student progress and needs.
  • Coordinate with other professionals involved in student services to ensure a cohesive program.
  • Work directly with students to implement IEP goals and objectives effectively.
  • Develop therapy schedules and provide speech language pathology services for students from preschool through 12th grade in alignment with their IEPs.
  • Evaluate and manage augmentative communication devices for eligible students, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Design and deliver focused instruction based on individual IEP goals, utilizing state standards and district curriculum.
  • Recognize and address individual learning needs to promote student achievement.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive learning environment to encourage effective student behavior and success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to support student success and adhere to special education laws.
  • Participate in and lead meetings to discuss student goals and compliance with laws and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the work of assigned support staff.
  • Adhere to district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with specified work hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to address a range of speech and language deficits.
  • Current knowledge of assistive technology.
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Understanding of child development principles.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress effectively.
  • Skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices.
  • Capability to adapt and modify instructional techniques for diverse learners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Proficiency in operating technology devices and relevant software.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Willingness to enhance job-related competencies.
EDUCATION:
  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a School Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Eligibility to work in proximity to children, subject to a background check.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Recent successful experience as a speech language pathologist in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred.
