POSITION:

Director of Special Programs

JOB SUMMARY:

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for conducting assessments to establish the eligibility of students for speech and language services and delivering those services to qualified students. The full-time role entails a commitment of 7 hours per day for 180 days, while the part-time position offers flexible hours based on the applicant's availability.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate as a team member to identify, evaluate, and place students with speech and language impairments.
  • Assist in creating and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students.
  • Engage in various meetings, including planning sessions, special education discussions, and eligibility evaluations.
  • Communicate effectively with other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student services.
  • Work directly with students to implement IEP goals and objectives.
  • Design therapy schedules and provide speech language pathology services for students from preschool through 12th grade in alignment with their IEPs.
  • Evaluate and monitor the use of augmentative communication devices for eligible students.
  • Deliver focused instruction based on individual IEP goals, utilizing state standards and district curriculum.
  • Recognize and address individual learning needs to promote student achievement.
  • Foster a safe and positive learning environment to encourage effective student behavior and success.
  • Collaborate with parents and the school community to support student achievement and adhere to special education laws.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as mandated by state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the work of assigned support staff.
  • Adhere to district policies and professional conduct standards.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to address a range of speech and language deficits.
  • Current knowledge of assistive technology.
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Understanding of child development principles.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress effectively.
  • Skills in utilizing effective instructional strategies.
  • Capability to adapt techniques and materials for diverse learning needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and enhancing job-related competencies.

EDUCATION:
Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a School Speech Language Pathologist. Must pass a background check to work in proximity to children.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Recent experience as a speech language pathologist in an educational setting is preferred, along with experience working with diverse student populations.
