Position Overview

The Oncology Infusion Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care within the oncology department. This position involves comprehensive planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of individualized patient care strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough health evaluations by engaging with patients to gather information about their current health status and medical history.
  • Documentation: Accurately collect and document nursing assessments and interventions, ensuring all patient care activities are recorded.
  • Health Monitoring: Review and communicate the findings from health assessments, physical examinations, laboratory results, and psychosocial evaluations to the healthcare provider.
  • Patient Education: Identify patient and family needs, providing essential teaching and instructional materials to enhance understanding of care plans.
  • Therapeutic Administration: Prepare and administer prescribed therapies under the supervision of a physician, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Medication Management: Administer medications and blood products accurately, following established guidelines for dosage, route, and timing.
  • Authorization Compliance: Ensure that pre-authorization and consent forms are secured prior to the administration of therapies as required.
  • Dose Adjustment: Facilitate dose modifications by evaluating patient conditions, reviewing lab results, and consulting treatment protocols or physicians as necessary.
  • Venipuncture Skills: Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices with precision.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous documentation of patient care and treatments delivered.
  • Reimbursement Knowledge: Apply understanding of reimbursement processes and charge capture in daily operations.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous materials.
  • Medication Refills: Manage patient medication refill requests from pharmacies, documenting all relevant information in patient records.
  • Assistance in Procedures: Support physicians during examinations and medical procedures.
  • Consultation Coordination: Organize and schedule consultations, diagnostic tests, referrals, and follow-up appointments for patients.
  • Communication: Triage patient phone inquiries as needed, documenting pertinent information in patient charts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 1 year in oncology.
  • Oncology certification preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates are a plus.
