This part-time role requires 20 hours a week, with flexible midday hours suitable for those needing a balance between early mornings and late afternoons.

The Nutritional Support Specialist will play a vital role in all kitchen operations, ensuring that nutritious and high-quality meals are served to both children and staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks based on established menus, attendance records, and food service requests.
- Utilize standardized recipes and food handling practices to ensure all meals are ready for service at designated times.
- Seek approval from the Nutrition Coordinator for any major menu or recipe modifications and display the menu on the designated board.
- Adhere to Safe Food Handling Guidelines and maintain kitchen sanitation standards as per local, state, and federal regulations.
- Wash dishes, pots, and pans according to sanitation protocols established during training.
- Keep daily records of freezer and refrigerator temperatures.
- Follow security protocols for securing kitchen and storage areas, ensuring that all chemicals are stored safely away from children's reach.
- Maintain an ongoing record-keeping system, including inventory, recipes, production records, invoices, and meal counts.
- Engage in continuous evaluation of menu acceptance, food waste, and the dining environment. Participate in classroom nutrition education activities as time allows.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED/equivalent and at least six months of experience in a large-scale food service operation is preferred.
- Ability to manage difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure timely and accurate documentation.
- Respect and sensitivity towards cultural, racial, and economic diversity.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Commitment to the agency's mission and philosophy.
- Engagement with parents and families to build supportive relationships.
ACTIVE SUPERVISION FOR CHILD SAFETY:
At Head Start, Inc., we prioritize Active Supervision to ensure that every child is attended to at all times. Any incidents of children being left unsupervised must be reported immediately.
All employees are responsible for the safety of children in our care. Active Supervision involves constant observation and engagement with children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and frequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is a bustling kitchen where employees may encounter kitchen chemicals, high temperatures, and various kitchen equipment. The noise level can range from moderate to loud.
