Job Overview


Fermilab's Accelerator Division Mechanical Support and Target Systems Departments are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student to support the development of innovative research and technologies. As a Co-op Student, you will work on projects under the guidance of experienced engineers, taking on increasingly complex tasks and gaining independence over time.



Key Responsibilities



  • Collaborate with engineers on structural design, mechatronics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, radiation management, cryogenics, and vacuum applications.
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for accelerators and detectors.
  • Participate in research and development of new technologies and materials.
  • Contribute to the education and training of the next generation of physicists and engineers.


Requirements



  • Full-time undergraduate enrollment in a 4-year program at a U.S. college or university.
  • Registration in the academic institution's cooperative education program.
  • Sophomore academic standing at minimum.
  • 18 years of age at time of employment.
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Proof of health insurance.
  • Commitment to completing a minimum of three semesters or four quarters of work at Fermilab with alternating periods of full-time study.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering theory and machining practices.
  • Skills in CAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to perform technical work and analysis.


What We Offer


Fermilab offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. We also provide benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
