Key Responsibilities:
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in providing support before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Responsibilities include ensuring the availability and proper arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room for each procedure; assisting the surgeon during operations in accordance with professional and legal standards; and maintaining cleanliness in the operating room post-operation while ensuring proper routing of equipment and materials.

This position reports to the Manager.


The Core Operating Room department consists of approximately 80 highly skilled professionals who collaborate in a dynamic and fast-paced surgical environment.

Our specialties encompass general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, bariatrics, robotics, thoracics, trauma, and transplant, allowing our team to thrive in a diverse range of surgical cases.

This environment enables each individual to function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support personnel, dedicated to delivering the highest quality of medical and surgical care in our region.

With a demanding volume of 60-80 surgical cases daily, we cater to patients seeking the highest level of care from a facility equipped with cutting-edge technology and procedures.

As a Level I Trauma Center, Hartford Hospital is recognized as one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals.

Qualifications:
- Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Surgical Technology Program.

- Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or the ability to obtain NBSTA certification within one year of employment.

- Maintenance of CPR and BLS validation, along with attendance at annual Validation Day, is required.

- Knowledge of various surgical procedures with the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and recognize potential challenges.
- Familiarity with the names and functions of surgical equipment and instrumentation is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of a sterile field is mandatory.
- Understanding and practice of basic care and patient safety concepts.
- Application of aseptic principles to ensure optimal patient care.
- Awareness of operating room emergency situations.
