Our district serves 19,000+ students Pre-K-12, with 77% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% served by the Office of Special Education, and 78% students of color.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct functional vision assessments of children
  • Prepare and present formal reports to the Committee on Special Education
  • Review medical reports and consult with educators on student visual needs
  • Assess student needs for specialized materials and equipment
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille and regular therapy as designated by the IEP
  • Develop comprehensive IEPs for low vision and blind students
  • Participate in parent conferences and communicate with parents regularly
Qualifications
  • Proven experience accelerating student learning in urban schools
  • Training and experience with Culturally Relevant Education
  • Minimum of two years' successful classroom teaching experience
  • New York State teacher certification in the subject area or qualification to obtain it
  • Exemplary attendance and a commitment to serving urban students
