Job Title: Senior Transmission Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transmission Engineer to lead the design of complex transmission line projects. As a key member of our Transmission & Distribution practice, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leading technical design staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead transmission design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion, ensuring compliance with NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards.
  • Develop specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission lines, including structure design and development, hardware design and selection, and field installation supervision.
  • Lead development of construction drawings and cost estimates for high and extra high voltage overhead transmission lines.
  • Perform calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or GO 95 or other applicable codes and resources.
  • Communicate the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards.
  • Review transmission equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
  • Manage change orders effectively and ensure quality reviews of deliverables.
  • Apply expert knowledge of commonly used transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.
  • Lead construction support from an engineering perspective, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the transmission engineering practice, mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers.
  • Ensure QA/QC process adherence and effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Comply with company and site safety policies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering a plus.
  • 7 years transmission engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
  • Proficiency in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Design software and tools, including Bentley Power Line system based programs.
  • Proficiency in industry codes and standards, including NESC, GO95, ASCE 74, ASCE 48-1, or ASCE 10-97.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
