Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Food Services District Supervisor, the Senior Food Service Coordinator is responsible for managing the satellite food service operations within the School District. This role includes the ordering, receiving, storing, reconstituting, and distributing of pre-packaged, prepared meals at a designated school location. The Senior Food Service Coordinator may also oversee a small team of Food Service Aides involved in the unpacking, heating, and serving of these meals. Additionally, this position ensures sanitary conditions and may involve cleaning equipment, kitchen, and serving areas.

Key responsibilities include maintaining records in accordance with School District policies and the regulations of the National School Lunch Program. This encompasses reviewing student applications for meal eligibility, tracking lunch tickets purchased and utilized, accounting for the number of meals served and funds collected, and preparing weekly operational reports. The employee may also perform related duties as necessary.

TYPICAL DUTIES (Illustrative Only)
  • Prepares sandwiches, chops vegetables, and creates salads and fruit dishes; portions desserts into serving containers.
  • Serves food to students and staff in a cafeteria setting; may arrange packaged meals on serving racks.
  • Records the number of items prepared and sold; maintains logs; may handle cash transactions.
  • Operates a compliant Point of Sale (POS) computer system and terminal.
  • Cleans pots, pans, trays, and other utensils; maintains cleanliness in preparation and service areas.
  • May sweep and mop the food service area; disposes of trash from kitchen and cafeteria.
  • May prepare items on a grill, including hamburgers and hot dogs; may bake simple desserts.
  • Performs other related tasks as required.
Qualifications - External

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with basic food preparation techniques.
  • Understanding of health and sanitation standards in food handling and preparation.
  • Ability to learn to operate and maintain food preparation and service equipment.
  • Capability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Commitment to personal hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and counting accurately.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, students, and staff.
  • Experience in operating compliant Point of Sale systems and terminals.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
  • Two years of full-time, paid food service experience OR successful completion of accredited college-level coursework in:
    • Introduction to School Food Service; and
    • ServeSafe Sanitation Program.
Qualified candidates will be required to pass both a written and oral examination to be considered for this position.
