Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to join our team at Yuma Elementary School District ONE. The successful candidate will provide support to the instructional process, working under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist to identify students with communication disabilities and implement treatment plans to minimize adverse impact on student success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess students' communication skills to identify communication disorders and develop recommendations for treatment.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Instruct eligible students in the use of communication technologies to minimize the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.
  • Maintain accurate records and files, including progress reports, activity logs, and billing information.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather information.
  • Perform site visits at multiple work sites to provide therapy and assistance as required.
  • Prepare written materials, including activity logs, correspondence, and reports, to document activities and convey information.
  • Provide speech and language therapy to students in accordance with mandated timelines, district procedures, and state and federal requirements.
  • Report health and safety issues to assigned administrators and appropriate agencies.
  • Respond to inquiries from parents, teachers, staff, and students to provide information and refer to appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule student therapies to direct services in a timely manner.
  • Submit Medicaid billings to conform to established district policies and requirements.
  • Transport supplies and equipment to various sites to ensure availability as needed.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
  • Skills: Applying assessment instruments, operating specialized equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge: Anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders, principles and practices of speech and language therapy, pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws.
  • Ability: Scheduling activities, meetings, and/or events, gathering, collating, and/or classifying data, and using job-related equipment.
Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
