Job Summary

The City of Raleigh, NC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Utilities Specialist to provide operational, technical, and maintenance support for the City's water, wastewater, collection, and distribution systems. This role involves leading technical and specialized skilled work, planning and scheduling daily work tasks for crews, investigating customer concerns, and participating in hiring and performance evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and perform technical and specialized skilled work in providing operational, technical, and maintenance support for the City's water, wastewater, collection, and distribution systems.
  • May serve as a lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work completion.
  • May participate in hiring activities and performance evaluations.
  • Monitor and ensure safe working conditions and environment; identify potential hazards and initiate or coordinate corrective action to maintain safety; ensure availability, maintenance, and operability of safety and work-related equipment; monitor processes and activities to assure quality.
  • Meet and communicate with contractors, design professionals, and other stakeholders regarding construction or special projects; read and interpret maps, charts, and technical drawings; perform or oversee utility locates; provide operational support in the coordination of project work.
  • Prepare, maintain, and/or review reports, data, forms, permits, and/or code enforcement investigations; monitor, track, and maintain inventory levels; initiate ordering to replenish supply levels or purchase new items.
  • Respond to inquiries, complaints, issues, and information requests from internal and external customers; address and resolve problems and complaints; monitor compliance with applicable regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and four years of maintenance experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
