The Civil Engineer is responsible for civil engineering planning and design, offering technical guidance to district personnel, commissioned architects, and consulting engineers regarding civil engineering design, while certifying design plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and technical direction to commissioned architects and structural engineers, ensuring adherence to district policies for site development design, including grading, paving, fencing, parking layouts, streets, storm drains, and sewer systems.
- Guide the Civil Engineering Unit in preparing school site designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review plans and specifications from commissioned or consulting civil engineers for compliance with district policies and identify any conflicts with architectural and engineering features, requesting necessary revisions.
- Evaluate proposals from civil engineers, recommend commissioning, and review completed work for payment or nonpayment of fees.
- Establish and maintain civil engineering standards and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and safety requirements, enhancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of construction and maintenance.
- Conduct site development studies to assess the cost and feasibility of grading and utility improvements.
- Advise contractors, architects, engineers, and construction inspectors on civil engineering challenges encountered during construction.
- Provide professional certification for civil engineering designs on assigned projects.
- Conduct research and prepare reports on structural systems related to civil engineering components and installation methods.
- Perform advanced civil engineering tasks and related duties as assigned.
Compensation:
Salary range is $117,000 to $143,600.00
Benefits:
- Insurance: Paid premiums for a variety of medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
- Retirement: Membership in the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Vacation: Initial two weeks of paid vacation, increasing to three weeks after five years of continuous service.
- Paid Holidays: Up to 13 days.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school graduation or equivalent educational proficiency.
- Licensure: A valid Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
- Driver's License: A valid California Driver License and access to an automobile.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, walk on roofs, and navigate safely in partially completed buildings and crawl spaces.
