Role Overview

  • Position: Localization Specialist II - Bilingual (Japanese/English) - Fixed Term Contract
  • Summary: This position involves translating Japanese game content and related documents into English. A solid understanding of localization processes is crucial, along with a recognition of its significance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comprehend and adhere to the localization strategy and philosophy of the Pokémon brand, incorporating feedback from colleagues and supervisors.
  • Exhibit adaptability to new processes and tools while consulting with senior team members.
  • Translate and proofread in-game text for video game products, trading card games, and associated materials.
  • Collaborate with localization team members to ensure high linguistic quality and cultural relevance, maintaining consistency and fidelity to the developers' vision.
  • Engage in projects as part of a closely-knit team, gaining expertise in products through extensive gameplay and research to ensure accurate translations with contextual understanding.
  • Contribute cultural insights during development meetings with fellow localization professionals.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and adhere to various text type requirements, including length limitations and other technical constraints.
  • Interact daily with translators, editors, and localization project managers.
  • Regularly report progress to in-house management.

Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of experience in translating from Japanese to English.
  • Near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Able to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting new software and quickly learning specialized technical programs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience in gaming (either playing or translating) is essential; familiarity with Pokémon games is advantageous.
  • Experience with trading card games (either playing or translating) is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with Trados or MemoQ is beneficial, though experience with any CAT tools is advantageous.
