Job Overview
The Special Education Self-Contained Instructional Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the supervising educator by executing a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing instructional delivery and classroom management. This position operates under the guidance of the supervising educator, focusing primarily on providing direct assistance to students.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement instructional activities designed by the supervising educator for both individual and group settings.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance as directed by the supervising educator.
- Oversee and facilitate student learning activities within the classroom and designated community environments.
- Assist with personal care needs related to hygiene and self-help for students.
- Apply appropriate behavioral management techniques in line with district policies.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning atmosphere that encourages student self-esteem.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for all students during instructional activities.
- Utilize classroom resources and technology effectively.
- Support students in mainstream classes as needed.
- Prepare and modify educational materials under the direction of the supervising educator.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding student information and progress.
- Commit to regular attendance and punctuality as an essential function of the role.
- Participate in required professional development activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of specific educational requirements if working in a Title 1 school.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is advantageous.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow detailed instructions provided by the supervising educator.
- Proficient in data collection and assessment methods.
- Capable of managing stress effectively.
Work Environment
- Primarily classroom-based with potential outdoor responsibilities.
- May involve working in varying weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively, stand, walk, and perform physical tasks as required.
- Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
