Laboratory Administration Lead

Job Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Laboratory Manager. This role involves overseeing essential laboratory functions and maintaining comprehensive databases. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research environment focused on the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Management and curation of databases, ensuring accurate data entry, error verification, and thorough documentation across various data streams, including field, laboratory, and partner datasets (30%).
- Ensuring the health and safety protocols of the laboratory are upheld and compliance with institutional regulations is maintained (20%).
- Supporting daily laboratory and field operations, which includes procurement of supplies, logistics for shipping, preparation of sampling vials, and formulation of basic solutions (20%).
- Assisting with the permitting and reporting processes for animal care committees and wildlife management agencies (20%).
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Utilizing molecular biology techniques for the extraction and analysis of pathogen samples.
- Culture and maintenance of fungal isolates.
- Participation in fieldwork activities (10%).

Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including environmental health and safety personnel, animal care technicians, and academic staff.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to draft laboratory protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:
- A Master’s or Doctorate degree in biology, microbiology, epidemiology, ecology, or a related discipline.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience and within budgetary constraints.
