About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled IT professional to fill the position of IT Systems Administrator. This role will be responsible for administering user access, applying security best practices, and supporting the development of new IT resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and maintain physical and virtual servers
  • Administer Linux and Microsoft Windows systems
  • Install and maintain an environment software stack, used to support AI/ML, cybersecurity, information domain, and other interdisciplinary research
  • Manage user access and apply security best practices
  • Support the development of new IT resources

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area, such as computer science, or a combination of significant experience and relevant IT certifications
  • Significant experience in two or more of the following areas: Linux Administration, Python/Conda Administration, Network Administration, Virtualization Administration
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience leading small teams through system administration tasks
  • US Citizenship due to the nature of the Institute's work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining common guest operating systems, including Linux and Windows
  • Experience with host scripting languages, such as PowerShell and Bash
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Active Directory and DNS administration and configuration
  • Experience with Dell PowerEdge servers and related technologies
  • Experience with Cisco switches and routers
  • Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
