As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using radiopharmaceuticals. You will work independently, utilizing proper techniques and administration of medications, operation of equipment, and venipuncture. You will also coordinate patient flow and activities of the Nuclear Medicine department, including radiation protection practices. You will exercise professional judgment in the performance of your duties to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on-call responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Functions:
1. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures of diagnostic and therapeutic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols. Evaluates diagnostic Nuclear Medicine studies for technical image quality. 2. Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the Nuclear Medicine procedure. 3. Implements screening and safety measures in accordance with prescribed Nuclear Medicine safety standards. Performs Quality Control/Quality Assurance as required. 4. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to the patient according to policy. Practices sterile techniques. 5. Assists Radiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations. 6. Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction. 7. Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam. 8. Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure. 9. Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
