Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Pre-Owned Vehicle Technician to become a valuable member of our Sonic Automotive team.


The Pre-Owned Vehicle Technician is tasked with executing vehicle repairs and maintenance as directed, adhering to both dealership and manufacturer standards.

This role also includes supervising any apprentice technicians assigned to assist.

Ideal Candidate:

The successful applicant will possess 2-5 years of experience in the Pre-Owned Vehicle/Recon Technician field, with a background in both Lexus and multi-brand vehicles. A Smog License is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review repair orders from the service dispatcher and proceed to the designated work area.
  • Execute tasks as specified on the repair order with precision and efficiency, in line with dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Identify the source of any issues and carry out necessary repairs.
  • Collaborate with the parts department to procure required components.
  • Preserve and label parts if the repair falls under warranty or at the customer's request.
  • Inspect the vehicle to ascertain if any additional safety or service work is necessary.
  • Promptly inform the service advisor if further work is deemed unnecessary.
  • Notify the service advisor immediately if repairs cannot be finalized within the promised timeframe.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of work completed.
  • Conduct road tests on vehicles when necessary or refer to the testing technician, ensuring that customer vehicles are not used for personal purposes.
  • Oversee the work of any apprentice technicians assigned to the technician.
  • Participate in factory-sponsored training sessions.
  • Stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
  • Ensure that customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition.
  • Keep the workshop area organized and clean, and account for all dealership-owned tools consistently.
  • Comprehend and adhere to federal, state, and local regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and report any incidents to a manager or supervisor without delay.
