Key Responsibilities:


Manage and underwrite assigned renewal policies, utilizing knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans, and guidelines to select and price individual risks, while maintaining open communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

Ensure appropriate pricing of individual risks through accurate classification, Knowledge Management/Predictive Modeling, and adherence to company underwriting standards.

Refer accounts that exceed authority levels to the appropriate personnel.

Respond to agent inquiries regarding coverage and adjust policy information as necessary.

Operate within designated authority levels to quote, accept, decline, modify, and renew risks according to established underwriting guidelines.

Collaborate with agents, team members, and other departments to cultivate and sustain a profitable book of business.

Provide expert guidance to internal and external customers on various underwriting matters.

Communicate underwriting decisions and appetite effectively to stakeholders at both the individual account and portfolio levels.

Enhance customer experience by consistently meeting or exceeding service quality expectations.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, peers, and management.

Conduct agency visits and maintain open communication.

Work diligently to achieve both individual and team objectives.

Support team decisions and engage in continuous profit and growth analysis by territory and agency.

Monitor premium retention using electronic reporting tools.

Increase renewal premiums by cross-selling additional coverage and services.

May mentor less experienced underwriters and provide training on coverage and systems.

Participate in or lead projects and initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.

Engage in ongoing development of technical skills and knowledge of Selective's offerings.

A valid license and the ability to drive for company-related travel are required, though travel constitutes less than 5% of the role.

Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in commercial underwriting is preferred.
Completion of INS; AU; or completion or pursuit of CIC; or CPCU is strongly preferred.
The expected salary range for this position is $78,000 - $112,000, based on geographic location and representative of salaries across Selective's operations.
