The Aircraft Avionics Technician is responsible for adjusting, repairing, and/or replacing electrical wiring and aircraft system avionics. This role requires a thorough understanding of airframe and power plant systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical and avionics systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Adjust, repair, and/or replace electrical wiring and aircraft system avionics
- Maintain and repair aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components
- Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections
- Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions
- Apply required expertise in restoring equipment condition and/or operation
- Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation, such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals
- Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft and verify the work was performed satisfactorily
- Service engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition
- May specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies
- May specialize in engine repair
- May be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records
- Prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects
- Receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician
- Occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks
- May be required to troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition
- Knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools
- Working knowledge of avionics systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operations, limitations, and technical orders
- Knowledge of military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory
- Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus
- Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Required three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS)
- All experience must be within the six most recent years
- A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required
- All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements
- Must provide own tools/toolbox
- Tools must be shadowed and PID etched in each tool
- Valid Driver's License
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
- US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility
- Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds
- Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices
- Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated
- Work could be performed outside as well
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
