Job Summary

This is a part-time position with the City of Montclair, CA, supporting the Police Department's various functions. The Police Cadet will assist in Records Bureau, perform vehicle maintenance, issue parking citations, and conduct security patrols. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and possess a valid California driver's license.

Essential Duties

Assist in Records Bureau as Citation Clerk, processing parking and traffic citations, indexing, filing, and answering telephones.
Perform maintenance inspection of police vehicles, conduct minor repair work, transport vehicles to repair locations, and prepare monthly maintenance reports.
Issue citations for parking violations, abandoned vehicles, and traffic control.
Conduct security patrols, driving and walking through parking lots or assigned areas, observing and monitoring activities, and reporting suspicious criminal activities and/or hazardous conditions to the Police Department.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to work independently, reason and react effectively and maturely, comply with and comprehend verbal and written instruction, and learn to operate telephone, teletype, and radio equipment. They must be able to meet and work tactfully and courteously with the public, prepare reports utilizing correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and perform a variety of clerical duties. The ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 lbs is also required. Acquaintance with police practices and methods is desirable.
