We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Public Safety Communications Specialist to join our team at the City of Montclair. As a key member of our public safety department, you will be responsible for receiving and transmitting emergency public safety messages by telephone, voice radio, and alarm signals.
Key Responsibilities- Secure and record information regarding the exact location and circumstances of emergencies
- Use voice radio to dispatch necessary equipment in accordance with predetermined plans
- Notify supervisors on duty and maintain radio contact with officers on assignment
- Keep supervising officers informed of situations and maintain communication liaison with other agencies
- Study and be familiar with locations of streets, buildings, and patrol beats
- Perform miscellaneous clerical duties
- High school graduate or GED
- One year of responsible general clerical, communication, or public service experience
- Ability to operate radio, telephone, and teletype equipment
- Ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to reason and react effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to cooperate with others and apply procedures for handling unique problems
