About the Role

FareStart is seeking a skilled Barista to join our team at our South Lake Union café. As a Barista, you will be responsible for operating the day-to-day functions of the café, including preparation of food and drinks, demonstrating barista craft, and other duties such as cash handling, cleaning, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome customers, answer questions, and take orders for beverages and food.
  • Accurately ring in orders on POS system and write on cups or bags.
  • Preparation of foods such as sandwiches or baked items, brewed coffee and tea, espresso-based beverages, etc. and serving items to customers.
  • Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
  • Learn about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
  • Update signage and displays to attract customers.
  • Take inventory and replenish items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and quality control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, one (1) year of food service experience, and one (1) year of barista experience; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid King County Food Handler's Permit.
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills including ability to use Microsoft office, particularly word, outlook, and excel.
  • Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and the ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, within diverse teams and environments.
  • Ability to employ best practices associated with the position, while displaying an on-going commitment to growth and self-development.
  • Ability to adhere to attendance and punctuality standard.
  • Ability to remain calm in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take in new information and perspectives to inform and adapt work.
  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
