As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a vital role in our mission by performing a variety of routine and complex tests in our laboratory sections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Accurately perform testing and produce high-quality results, making sound judgments based on quality control data and patient status.
  • Work efficiently during peak periods, maintaining the quality of results and adapting to changing workload demands.
  • Independently perform testing, demonstrating a thorough understanding of department protocols and testing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documents, including quality control records, as required by section protocols.
  • Utilize autoverification and associated technologies to release results, verifying non-autoverified results before release when necessary.
  • Recognize critical values and reportable results according to established protocols.
  • Report critical results to authorized caregivers and document this action in the laboratory information system.
  • Document QA-related incidents and report them to the section supervisor and Laboratory's Quality Manager.
  • Understand and perform information system functions necessary for laboratory operations.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking and problem-solving skills, knowing when to seek consultation.
  • Familiarity with the Laboratory Exposure Control Plan, including the Chemical Hygiene Plan, Hazard Communication Program, and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen standard, and apply standard precautions to work practices.
  • Demonstrate safe practices in the performance of assigned job duties and report any unsafe practices or conditions to responsible parties.
Requirements

An Associate's Degree is required, with a Bachelor's Degree and MLS or MT certification preferred. Certifications, education, and/or experience must meet CLIA requirements for moderate and high complexity testing. Instrumentation experience is also preferred.

MLS(ASCP), MT (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), MT(HEW) certification is required within a year of hire.
