Position Summary

A significant portion of the role involves directing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies utilizing specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. This is a specialist-level position recognized as a subject matter expert in the field, usually obtained through advanced education and relevant work experience. The role typically involves managing substantial projects or processes with minimal oversight from management, mentoring, reviewing, and delegating tasks to junior professionals while resolving complex challenges.

Overview of Responsibilities

A Medical Doctor specializing in endocrinology is a healthcare professional dedicated to diagnosing, treating, and managing patients' endocrine-related health issues. This position collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing staff, specialists, and support personnel, to ensure the provision of exceptional healthcare services.

Essential Qualifications:

1. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

2. Completion of a Residency Program.

3. Completion of a Fellowship, if applicable to the medical specialty.

4. Valid medical practice license.

5. Board certification in the relevant medical specialty.

6. Credentials approved by the hospital (medical license, clinical privileges).

7. Unrestricted DEA registration.

8. Relevant certifications for the area of practice (BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, etc.)

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are intended to outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional duties may be assigned.

1. Conducts comprehensive evaluations of patients, including reviewing medical histories, performing physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic tests to accurately diagnose and formulate treatment plans for hospitalized patients.

2. Develops and implements tailored treatment strategies for patients, taking into account their medical conditions, co-existing health issues, and overall wellness, while collaborating with specialists and healthcare teams.

3. Provides continuous inpatient care by conducting regular assessments, monitoring patient progress, evaluating responses to treatment, and addressing any complications or changes in their conditions.

4. Prescribes and administers medications, therapies, and medical interventions in accordance with established protocols, ensuring precise dosages and timely administration.

5. Performs various medical procedures and interventions within the area of expertise.

6. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other relevant investigations, to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

7. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing staff, specialists, pharmacists, and support personnel, to ensure coordinated patient care, discuss treatment strategies, and address any clinical concerns.

8. Communicates effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and prognoses, while addressing any questions or concerns they may have.

9. Educates patients and their families on self-management, medication adherence, lifestyle changes, and post-discharge instructions to enhance their understanding and active participation in their healthcare.

10. Maintains accurate and complete medical records, including patient histories, physical examination findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

11. Participates in hospital committees, case discussions, and multidisciplinary rounds to review complex cases, evaluate treatment outcomes, and contribute to the overall enhancement of patient care quality.

12. Attends conferences, seminars, and continuing medical education programs to remain informed about the latest medical research, guidelines, and advancements in the field.

13. Adheres to hospital policies and protocols, including infection control measures, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements, to ensure a safe and effective healthcare environment.

14. Provides leadership and mentorship to medical residents, interns, and medical students, offering guidance and support in their clinical education and professional growth.

15. Upholds professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality in all aspects of patient care, fostering trust, empathy, and respect in interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

1. Prolonged periods of standing or walking.

2. Lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring patients and equipment.

3. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

4. Regular exposure to hazardous materials, sick patients, bodily fluids, noise, and potential exposure to radiation and electrical hazards.

5. Frequent risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.

6. Interaction with patients in various circumstances, including interhospital transport in emergency vehicles.

7. Adaptability to varying and unpredictable situations.

8. Ability to manage emergency crisis situations.

9. Possible contact with hazardous materials.
