Job Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Pharmacist to join our inpatient team in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care. As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care to the adult acute care population, with a focus on internal medicine and cardiology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess medication orders for appropriateness, including drug selection, dosage, route, and potential interactions
  • Enhance pharmacotherapy regimens through the application of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles
  • Identify and address drug incompatibilities, contraindications, and patient medication allergies as necessary
  • Employ clinical guidelines and evidence-based practices to inform medication therapy decisions
  • Engage in daily multidisciplinary rounds and review patient profiles
  • Offer drug information and medication therapy recommendations to the multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor patient responses to medications and suggest modifications as needed
  • Ensure thorough clinical documentation in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Requirements
  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • Current pharmacist licensure by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy or eligibility to obtain licensure
  • One (1) year of applicable pharmacy experience is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives
Desired Qualifications
  • Inpatient clinical pharmacy experience is highly desirable
  • Satisfactory completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency in pharmacy
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification in a relevant specialty area
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
