Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at West Fraser. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in the repair, maintenance, and programming of our electrical systems and automation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and execute electrical and automation improvement projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Assist in the management of maintenance planning and reliability maintenance, utilizing CMMS/Ivara systems to optimize equipment performance.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, designing and procuring equipment and spare parts as needed.
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve equipment uptime, reliability, and performance, exercising independent judgment and initiative.
  • Respond to emergency calls and troubleshoot electrical and automation issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers to repair and maintain equipment to OEM specifications, modifying and retrofitting systems for efficiency improvements.
  • Repair, replace, or modify electronic and electrical process control equipment, implementing design changes on programmable controllers and microprocessors.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings, ensuring accurate and safe system operation.
  • Work safely and adhere to safety protocols, reporting and correcting unsafe working conditions and behaviors.
  • Attend and complete company-required training, staying up-to-date with industry developments and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of our operations team.
Requirements
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Associates degree from a technical school in a related field or 5 years' experience in electrical/technical support work in an industrial environment.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Specialized knowledge and skills in:
    • Control Logix programming, hardware, and firmware upgrades.
    • RSLinx.
    • Factory Talk Asset Centre.
    • Factory Talk Studio and Client addition (New HMIs).
    • IT or computer networking from Cisco or Rockwell software and hardware components.
    • Powerflex drives 755, 753, 525, and 523.
    • Working knowledge of power systems, HMI's, PLC's, Large Motor Drives, and Motors.
  • Demonstrated initiative and independent thought.
  • Discretion and tact in dealing with interpersonal situations.
  • Ability to relay information effectively and accurately to individuals and groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Recordkeeping and maintaining paper and electronic documents for record retention.
