We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing clinical and research diagnostic molecular imaging testing, including general, cardiac, and PET studies.
Key Responsibilities- Screen patients for appropriate indications and contraindications, communicating with providers to facilitate diagnostic exam adjustments as needed.
- Explain procedures to patients, reassuring them and securing their cooperation during testing.
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients, completing testing for general, cardiac, and PET studies, as well as research studies.
- Perform intra-venous peripheral catheter insertion as authorized by a Nuclear Medicine physician.
- Complete testing for in and outpatients within various hospital locations, acquiring, processing, and reconstructing images as appropriate.
- Observe radiation safety techniques, including use of protective shielding and handling and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Ensure correct protocol, radiation dose, and contrast are administered to patients for CT or MR scanning when ordered.
- Lift, move, transport, and position patients for diagnostic studies.
- Follow Institutional/Departmental guidelines for patient safety and patient care.
- Interface with computer systems related to the duties of the position, including EPIC, Optility, PET Manager, Syngo, and E.soft.
- Alert Unit Technical/Operations Manager regarding equipment problems, problems encountered during testing, etc.
- Assist in on-the-job training of new hires and students.
- On-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Radiologic technologist (Nuclear Medicine) in the state of Massachusetts.
- ARRT or NMTCB certification.
- CT Certification required within one year of employment.
- BS degree in NM Technology preferred or BS in unrelated field with a certificate in NM Technology preferred.
- Preferred: 1-2 years of experience.
The successful candidate will be able to lift/carry up to 50lbs, be able to lift, position, push or transfer patients, have manual dexterity and mobility, be able to see clearly at 20 feet or more, be able to see clearly at 20 inches or less, be able to judge distance and space relationships, be able to see peripherally, and be able to distinguish and identify different colors.
Works with and takes safety precautions while handling radioactive, chemical and biohazard materials.
