Forensic Fire Protection Engineer

We're a national forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience in the industry. We work with law firms, insurance companies, and manufacturers to investigate the 'why' behind failures. Our staff evaluates a wide range of failures, resulting in a complex and ever-changing workflow. We love what we do and the company behind it.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate residential, commercial, and industrial fires involving fire protection or life safety systems, including water-based fire sprinkler systems, commercial kitchen fire protection, and special hazard fire suppression systems.
  • Conduct field investigations and perform forensic engineering and failure/accident analysis on incidents involving various fire protection systems.
  • Conduct post-accident evaluations involving fire-spread and means of egress.
  • Consult with clients regarding applicable building and life safety codes.
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various clients.
  • Responsible for retention and development of client relationships.
  • Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in written reports.
  • Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships, and promote self to client groups.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
  • P. E. registration or ability to obtain.
  • IAAI-CFI or CFEI certifications or ability to obtain.
  • Fire Investigation experience or desire to learn a must.
  • Knowledge of fire protection systems, building construction, and relevant codes.
  • Experience with fire modeling a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of fire protection engineering industry experience.
  • Forensic experience/exposure a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
