Job Summary

Magellan Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Military and Family Life Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will provide critical support to military service members and their families through non-medical counseling, training, and consultation services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-medical, short-term counseling services to children and youth of military service members, including assessment, brief counseling, and consultation.
  • Work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure the program meets the needs of the installation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community resources focused on children and youth, and provide appropriate linkages.
  • Participate in regular in-services, training, and Quality Improvement committees to ensure the highest level of service delivery.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense program manager.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health related field.
  • Valid unrestricted counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-masters supervised clinical experience.
  • Meet the Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
  • Pass a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) Clearance and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal History Background Check and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • Ability to develop trusting, helping relationships with children, service members, and their families.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to prove US Citizenship and must be fluent in English.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond quickly to emergent situations, and traverse short and/or long distances within a military installation and/or within a school setting. The counselor must also be able to work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions.
