Packaging Specialist

At Shur-Co, we are seeking a skilled Packaging Specialist to join our team. As a Packaging Specialist, you will be responsible for manually packaging materials and products by performing various duties.
Key Responsibilities:- Clean and prepare packaging containers for use.
- Assemble cartons, line and pad crates, and sort products.
- Wrap protective materials around products and start, stop, and regulate the speed of conveyor belts.
- Insert or pour products into containers or fill containers from spouts or chutes.
- Weigh containers and adjust quantities as needed.
- Sort bundles or filled containers and label them accordingly.
- Nail, glue, or close and seal containers to ensure secure packaging.
- Inspect materials, products, and containers at each step of the packaging process.
- Record information such as weight, time, and date packaged.
- Read production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Convey materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences.
- Fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distribute them to production workers or assembly lines.
- Assemble customer orders from stock and place them on pallets or shelves, or convey them to packing stations or shipping departments.
- Mark materials with identifying information, prepare parcels for mailing, and maintain inventory records.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
The Packaging Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels. The employee will be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, often lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of another person.
The work environment will include moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, and vibration.
