The Sonographer plays a crucial role in the independent operation of ultrasound technology, conducting and interpreting diagnostic examinations through sonography. This position involves maintaining sonographic equipment, addressing any malfunctions, and ensuring quality control. The sonographer is expected to uphold a high standard of professionalism, ensuring patient confidentiality and adhering to medical ethics. Continuous self-improvement in understanding the field, diseases, and evolving procedures is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct clinical assessments and cardiac sonography examinations as per provider requests.
• Utilize cognitive skills to accurately identify and record anatomical and pathological findings.
• Exercise independent judgment during examinations to differentiate between normal and abnormal results.
• Address patient concerns and resolve issues as they arise.
• Analyze sonograms and synthesize medical history to communicate findings effectively to healthcare providers.
• Prepare preliminary reports and liaise with referring providers as necessary.
• Coordinate work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and patient care.
• Ensure the safety and comfort of patients during examinations.
• Maintain ultrasound equipment and workspace, ensuring all supplies are adequately stocked.
• Report any equipment failures to the appropriate personnel.
• Participate in laboratory accreditation maintenance.
• Foster ethical relationships with all interrelated facilities and collaborate with staff to ensure optimal patient care.
• Provide training to colleagues as requested.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with healthcare professionals.
• Proficient in medical terminology.
• Ability to explain echocardiographic procedures to patients and address their inquiries.
• Knowledge of infection control protocols.
• Familiarity with laws governing patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Competence in first aid and Basic Life Support certification.
• Maintain ARDMS and/or CCI certifications.
• Conduct 2D echo with color flow Doppler exams efficiently.
• Demonstrate sound judgment regarding the use of echo contrast.
• Consistent patient preparation and adherence to established exam protocols.
Qualifications:
• Dual Certification in Vascular and Echo is mandatory.
• Completion of an accredited Ultrasound Technology Training program.
• Certification as an Ultrasound Technician (or equivalent) with a minimum of 1 year of experience in a diagnostic facility or hospital; new graduates eager to learn are welcome.
• Strong knowledge of ultrasound equipment and techniques.
• Team-oriented with excellent communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with Vascular and Echo procedures.
• Basic computer skills and experience with MS Outlook.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous but not required.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
