Clinical Professor of Entomology Education

The Department of Entomology at Purdue University is on the lookout for a Clinical Professor focused on Education and Learning in Entomology. The successful candidate will possess a solid foundation in entomology along with expertise in pedagogical methods. This role will enhance a vibrant Insect Biology program that serves nearly 100 undergraduate and graduate scholars, while collaborating with a dynamic team of over 20 faculty members in the field of entomology. Additionally, the position offers avenues for involvement with the wider educational community at both the College and University levels, including Purdue's Center for Instructional Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
This position is an academic year appointment, primarily dedicated to innovative teaching in fundamental entomology and service courses (e.g., ENTM 10500 Insects: Friend and Foe, ENTM 20600/20700: General Entomology Lecture/Lab), as well as contributing to the development of the undergraduate curriculum and supporting student recruitment initiatives. Opportunities for teaching distance/online courses during the academic year may also be available. The ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Facilitate the achievement of educational outcomes by instructing courses and creating instructional resources at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Engage in research related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Provide mentorship to students within the Department's academic programs.
- Participate in strategic planning efforts for the undergraduate curriculum and the Insect Biology major.
- Assist in recruitment initiatives aimed at maintaining or increasing enrollment in the Insect Biology major.
- Collaborate effectively with faculty from the Department of Entomology and across the College of Agriculture to support the University's educational, research, and outreach missions.
- Engage in outreach and service activities both within and outside the Department.
A PhD in entomology, biology, or related life sciences is required by the time of appointment. Demonstrated experience in teaching is essential.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, including the design, delivery, and evaluation of academic courses.
- Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Experience in mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- A background check is a prerequisite for employment in this role.
