Job Summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a highly skilled Veterinarian to join our Animal Care and Control Division. As a Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing medical care and treatment to animals in our shelter, as well as supervising and participating in medical diagnosis, treatment, and care of all animals sheltered by the Animal Care and Control Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical care of injured or sick animals on a twenty-four hour, seven-day-a-week basis
  • Administer a disease prevention program through preventative inoculation and shelter sanitation
  • Responsibility for euthanasia of unwanted animals
  • Supervise and participate in individual medical exams of all animals handled by the Department
  • Provide training and education for AC&C staff on proper medical techniques & procedures, proper care, and analyzing health issues
  • Oversee Animal health programs at AC&C to provide best possible care to animals entering & exiting while maintaining population control

Requirements

  • Doctorate (DMV) Degree and one year related work experience
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Ability to write reports & business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information & respond to questions from groups of City employees / general public

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an animal shelter environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims, animals etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files and phone.
