Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team at the Gemological Institute of America. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Security and Surveillance: Maintain vigilance for unusual or suspicious individuals or situations, monitor and operate surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection equipment, and ensure its functionality by promptly reporting issues and getting those resolved at the earliest.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, administer first aid as required, and assist in evacuation and crowd control in the event of an emergency.
  • Communication and Customer Service: Act as a trusted point of contact for personnel, students, vendors, and the public, and provide excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Log observations regarding security, safety, and maintenance-related issues, and maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents and events.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other departments and teams to ensure a safe and secure environment, and participate in special events and tours organized at/by the institute.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Must obtain/renew California Security Guard License (at the time of hire), First Aid certification, and CPR & AED certification.
  • Skills and Abilities: Intermediate computer skills, ability to learn and adapt to new software applications, aptitude in learning how to do basic troubleshooting, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security Officer Experience: Previous experience as a security officer, preferably in a similar environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, knowledge and experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions planning, and experience in CCTV, access control, intruder alarm, and fire alarm handling.
Physical Requirements
  • Work Environment: Tasks are performed both in a professional office environment and outdoors, including standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and driving a company vehicle.
