Patient Care Technician Specialist

UPMC Mercy is seeking a dedicated and skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Same Day Surgery team.
Job Summary:The Patient Care Technician will assist in the care of surgical patients in the Same Day Surgery unit and Mercy Pavilion. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing essential care to surgical patients.
Responsibilities:- Assist in the care of surgical patients in the Same Day Surgery unit and Mercy Pavilion.
- Perform vital signs checks, obtain weights, and assist patients and nurses.
- Escort patients and families within the facility.
- Obtain blood sugars, labs, perform EKGs, and start IVs.
- Rotate with other PCT specialists in the Preadmission Testing department, conducting bloodwork and EKGs for pre-surgical patients.
Candidates must have experience in IV insertion and phlebotomy. 1-2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Schedule:Monday to Friday, daylight hours. Shifts start at 4:30 AM with staggered start times. 8 or 10-hour shifts available. No weekends, no holidays, and no night shifts.

- Cares for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace.

- Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
- Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments.
- Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
- Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must also have either 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician - Senior title, OR 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelors degree in a health sciences field.
- Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire.
- Successful completion of patient care technician specialist class.
- Successful completion of basic information system training.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Act 34.
