Key Responsibilities:

As a Laboratory Technician II, you will be responsible for performing only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, and must possess a level of skill that corresponds with your education, training, or experience and technical capabilities. Your duties will include:

  1. Adhering to laboratory protocols for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  2. Following established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  3. Identifying problems that may negatively impact test performance and either resolving the issue or promptly notifying your supervisor or the Medical Director.
  4. Conducting a variety of laboratory procedures that require independent judgment using both manual and automated methods across various disciplines including Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  5. Performing and documenting maintenance on instruments and equipment as required.
  6. Reviewing the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
  7. Recognizing age-specific differences in expected results for patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics.
  8. Ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient samples, maintaining confidentiality prior to reporting results.
  9. May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages.
  10. Assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  11. Adhering to all departmental and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  12. In the absence of a supervisor, may be designated as Lead Technician, overseeing the section or department during your shift.
  13. Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, and Training:

  1. ASCP certification or equivalent is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
  3. A Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational qualifications as mandated by CLIA.
  4. Current and valid state licensure if required by the state where the laboratory is located.
