PRIMARY ROLE

The Admissions Registered Nurse plays a crucial role as part of an Interdisciplinary Team, primarily responsible for presenting VITAS services and philosophy to patients and families, ensuring the admission of suitable patients.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE REGISTERED NURSE:

  • Current Registered Nurse license in California.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Preferred experience in hospital settings, physician practices, long-term care, or assisted living facilities.
  • Consideration for equivalent experience or licensure; open to A.D.N new graduates with prior LVN experience or BSN new graduates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage in information gathering, analysis, education, and form completion during the admissions process.
  • Assess patients for hospice eligibility, including medical records review as needed.
  • Secure agreement for the admission of referred patients and families who meet the criteria.
  • Analyze data collected by admission staff or VITAS clinicians to facilitate admission orders.
  • Establish effective relationships with referral sources to meet high-quality expectations.
  • Maintain clinical and professional competence.
  • Proactively develop relationships with relevant admissions and patient care personnel.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to educate and address questions from patients and their families regarding hospice and palliative care.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of intake, admission, and transition to care processes, with the ability to enhance skills in these areas.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, and colleagues.
  • Understanding of clinical manifestations of diseases and ability to develop specific clinical knowledge related to VITAS.
  • Proficiency in using VITAS information systems and mobile technology platforms.
  • Reliable transportation is essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements of the Admissions Registered Nurse are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Assist in lifting and transferring patients as necessary.
  • Lift objects exceeding 20 pounds.
  • Stand or walk for more than one hour each day.
  • Communicate effectively through speaking and listening.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The Admissions Registered Nurse may also be required to sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

SUPERVISION:

The Admissions Registered Nurse reports to the designated Admissions Manager. In the absence of an Admissions Manager, direction will be provided by the Patient Care Administrator or program designee.
