Laboratory Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at Christus Health. As a Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day operations of our laboratory, ensuring that all personnel are held accountable and that our laboratory meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage laboratory personnel, ensuring that they are trained and competent in their roles.
- Develop and implement new procedures and policies to improve laboratory operations and quality.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards, including CLIA, TJC, CAP, and AABB.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the work activities of assigned sections and shifts.
- Keep accurate attendance records and maintain time and attendance records for the department.
- Assist the Director/Manager in maintaining the laboratory budget and analyzing expense detail.
- Develop, implement, and maintain current procedural manuals for all tests performed in the laboratory.
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures and ensure that all personnel are aware of and comply with them.
- Research, evaluate, and implement new and improved procedures, methodologies, instrumentation, and techniques as assigned by the Director/Manager or Supervisor.
- Implement and maintain a Quality Control Program and maintain all applicable Quality Control and Functional Verification records.
- Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Refers clinical problems to the laboratory director, manager, or supervisor as appropriate.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all equipment in the laboratory to keep it in good working order.
- Prepare and submit routine or special administrative and technical reports by due dates as required.
- Order and maintain inventories for all necessary supplies and reagents in the laboratory.
- Train new technologists and technicians in laboratory procedures and policies and provide subsequent training in all new or revised procedures and techniques.
- Assist the Director/Manager in designing, implementing, collecting, and analyzing data, and reporting all phases of a comprehensive performance improvement program that involves laboratory personnel in Performance Improvement activities.
- Prepare and conduct in-service education for assigned sections and shifts.
- Provide input on personnel for hire, fire, transfer, interview, disciplinary probation, etc.
- Perform skills review and competency assessments and maintain appropriate documentation on all technical personnel as delegated by the Laboratory Manager/Director.
- Oversee and enforce expectations of personnel in assigned sections.
- Participate in proficiency testing surveys and review and evaluate results.
- Coordinate and attend meetings as required to discuss changes and developments regarding policies, equipment, procedures, staffing, etc.
- Utilize and have a thorough working knowledge of the Laboratory Information System and applications thereof.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
- Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
- Process patient specimens, including collection, handling, and distribution, always cognizant of minimal pediatric specimen volumes (when required).
- Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures in the primary section to which assigned.
- Provide notification and documentation of critical laboratory values obtained.
- Calculate, enter, and/or verify results of laboratory procedures.
- Perform all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary for the performance of assigned job duties.
- Keep abreast of Medical Technology by reading Journals, texts, and technical bulletins, attending workshops and seminars, and becoming active in local professional associations.
- Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
