About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team at Hebrew SeniorLife. As a key member of our fiscal and real-estate offices, you will play a critical role in maintaining and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting: Assist the fiscal team with day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting/Finance Department, including budget review and analysis.
  • Grants Management: Manage grants across the supportive housing portfolio.
  • Real Estate Proforma Development: Assist with the development of Real Estate proforma.
  • Cash Receipts and Revenue Processing: Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivable, and maintaining a daily cash receipts log.
  • Credit Card Reports and Receipts: Review and process Credit Card reports and receipts submitted by cardholders on a monthly basis.
  • Functional and Benefits Expense Allocations: Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
  • Budget and Forecast Analysis: Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.
  • General Accounts Analysis and Reconciliations: Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employers benefit costs, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and various ad hoc reports.
  • Interdepartmental Communication: Assist other departments with questions and accounting issues and communicate effectively with non-accounting personnel.
  • Fiscal Record Archives: Organize and maintain fiscal record archives.
  • Year-End Audit Support: Assist in preparing reports and account analyses in connection with the year-end audit.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from a fully accredited four-year university or college, or Associate's degree in Accounting with related experience.
  • Experience: Experience with real-estate accounting and grants management.
  • Accounting Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures; demonstrated competence in pertinent computer applications and systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using a personal computer, including knowledge and skill in the use of the Windows operating system and pertinent software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, General Ledger, and other accounting software for a medium-sized corporation.
