Job Title: Formulation Chemist

We are seeking an experienced Formulation Chemist to join our team at Tri-Pac, Inc. in South Bend, Indiana.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and preparing personal care and skin care products, including aerosol and liquid formulations. They will work closely with customers to understand their needs and restrictions, and develop formulas accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and prepare personal care and skin care products
  • Develop aerosol and liquid formulations
  • Understand customer needs and restrictions and develop formulas accordingly
  • Prepare specifications for all products developed
  • Maintain laboratory notebook, including critical processing details and observations
  • Multi-task to handle 10-15 projects a week
  • Monitor batch shelf-life stability
  • Calibrate and validate all lab equipment
  • Conduct and track all required performance and stability tests, interpret, record and report results
  • Stay up-to-date with industry and consumer trends
  • Have a working knowledge of global regulatory requirements
Requirements:
  • 2-5 years lab/formulation experience
  • Aerosol and working knowledge of propellants required
  • Knowledge of Access, Excel, Word, Projects
  • Attention to detail, organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Technical knowledge of chemicals and their functionality to develop and prepare personal care and color products
  • Knowledge and use of Brookfield viscometers, pH meter, pychnometers, mixers, hotplates
  • Ability to understand processing procedures, fill weights, formula cost implications, ingredient lists, and OTC products
  • Knowledge of OTC guidelines/monographs
  • Global formulation skills
  • Ability to utilize a computer, telephone, fax and copy machine as well as other general office equipment
  • Strong computer skills required
