The Yavapai County Public Defender's Office is seeking dedicated Public Defenders with diverse experience levels, ranging from entry-level to those qualified for capital cases. The salary for this position ranges from $74,013.86 for entry-level candidates to $132,000 for highly experienced individuals, with an additional 10% special assessment for first chair qualified attorneys. Key Responsibilities:
Analyzes case facts and formulates defense strategies. Collaborates with relevant county departments and external organizations. Advises and communicates with clients effectively. Represents clients during court proceedings. Advocates for clients in trial settings.Expectations:
Demonstrates a solid understanding of criminal law principles, evidentiary rules, motion practices, and court regulations. Applies legal principles to assess individual cases and challenges. Possesses a foundational knowledge of child development, substance abuse issues, and available client services, as applicable to the caseload. Produces clear and organized written documentation. Conducts independent research and analysis as necessary for effective legal defense. Manages a substantial workload efficiently. Cultivates and maintains productive relationships with clients, colleagues, court personnel, and the public.Required Qualifications:
Education:
Must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to the State Bar of Arizona.

Strong oral and written communication abilities; capacity to analyze and organize factual data; skill in making compelling legal arguments; and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
