Position Overview:
PEAK Technical Staffing is seeking a Building Compliance Engineer to perform thorough evaluations of residential and commercial construction plans under general oversight. The primary goal is to ensure adherence to various building, mechanical, energy, green, electrical, and plumbing regulations, as well as local ordinances and applicable state and federal laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine and assess architectural plans for conformity with established codes.
  • Provide assistance at the permit counter, addressing inquiries related to building regulations.
  • Clarify and elucidate building codes, ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures to architects, engineers, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Offer technical support and coordinate plan review activities with other city departments, external engineers, architects, contractors, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Respond to both verbal and written inquiries.
  • Articulate code and ordinance provisions to architects or engineers during the design phase.
  • Compile detailed correction lists, informational handouts, and necessary forms.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate reports and correspondence.
  • May be required to work during shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or architectural engineering.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in building/structure plan review.
  • Experience in municipal building/structure plan review is highly desirable.
Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license at the time of employment.
  • Certification from the International Conference of Building Officials or another recognized Plan Examiner Certification is preferred.
  • State of California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer or licensed Architect with the California Architects Board is highly desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Familiarity with California Code of Regulations - Title.
  • Understanding of principles, practices, and methods in architectural, structural, electrical, energy, green, and mechanical engineering and related fields.
  • Effective customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of building construction procedures, practices, methods, and materials.
