Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Safety Officer to join our team at St. John's College. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing security services and emergency response to all staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the college.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement security measures set forth by the Director of Public Safety, patrol campus, and provide security to employees and students using a community-based public safety model.
  • Check and maintain security to all buildings and grounds, document and write reports on incidents occurring on and relating to the college, and maintain a daily log.
  • Deal with parking concerns and enforcement, barricade areas for special events, and provide assistance for unlocking cars and starting vehicles.
  • Communicate with students, faculty, and staff about security concerns and upcoming events, respond to emergencies and alarms, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all college policies and enforcement methods.
  • Meet security expectations of the college.
  • Must possess good communication skills and maintain good relations with the entire campus community.
  • Must have the ability to assess abnormal or risk imminent situations quickly and control them appropriately.
  • Must maintain physical fitness for patrol duties.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing to work adjusted or overtime hours as the need arises.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Current certification or certification completion within 30 days of hire for First Aid, Adult and Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) is required throughout the appointment.
Work Environment

The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
