Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team at Select Physicians Surgery Center. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality patient care and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
- Establish and maintain asepsis during surgical procedures.
- Assist the circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment.
- Ensure sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup of surgical procedures.
- Assist in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
- Gown and glove surgeons and assistants.
- Assist in keeping physician preference cards accurate and updated.
- Retain all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source and name of the specimen with the surgeon.
- Transport all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas and assist in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
- Interact appropriately and effectively with all patients and others regardless of age or ethnic background.
- Use Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
- Assist with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participate in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follow all equipment and safety guidelines and be responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
- Serve as a resource to other members of the healthcare team.
- Attend in-services, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staff, patients, and employees.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of an appropriate surgical technician program or previous surgical technician experience of at least two years.
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred.
- Experience in Ear/Nose/Throat procedures is required.
- Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions of the patient when needed.
- Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients, and physicians.
